Obtaining a Canadian Fishing License

Ontario has changed the procedure for buying a Non-resident fishing license.

Starting in 2009, when buying a license you were required to get an Outdoors Card as well. If you purchased a license last year, you were issued an Outdoors Card and should have received it in mail. If for some reason you do not have it, call the Outdoors Card Centre (1-800-387-7011) to arrange for a replacement. In some circumstances there may be a fee for replacement.

This card is valid for 3 years and must be with you when fishing in Canada. We will need your Outdoors Card number, your name as it is printed on the card, birth date and the type of license you want when purchasing your Canadian fishing license from now on.

If you didn’t purchase a license last year, you will required to get a card this year for a fee of $9.00. We will need your address, phone number, date of birth, height, weight, eye color and type of license you want.

Keep in mind you will also need a Remote Area Border Crossing permit when crossing into Canadian waters. http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/prog/canpass/rabc-pfre/menu-eng.html
