Action starts with a bang in May and continues into October. Walleyes start biting in the shallow bays soon after ice-out. During mid-June a portion of the walleyes will move out on Rainy Lakes numerous reefs, sunken islands and points. Many stay shallow throughout the season. Early season northern pike is spectacular. The pike cruise the shallow bays and points for over a month providing great action on both lures and flies. May and the first two weeks of June may be the best opportunity for that trophy northern pike. In September the pike roll back into the shallows and the casting and trolling action heats up again.
